Weekend Away

Well, one of the perks of working for my company is the annual Operations Reward Trip. The owner of our company is very generous, and a great Kingdom giver... and also very generous to those who work for him. So, these trips are pretty extravagant. This year was no exception... we flew out Saturday morning into Denver, loaded a charter bus and made the 2 hour trek into the beautiful Rockies to Beaver Creek. Our condo was super plush, and it was the best spa treatment I've ever had. Not the best massage, but best spa. It was a great massage, but, of course, Marzooky is the bomb!  Anamieke is the perfect travel baby. So with the exception of my first ever bout with altitude sickness, the trip was just what the doctor ordered.

Now back in the real world... please pray that our house will SELL SOON! This 2 mortgage thing is for the birds! But, I'll write about all the housing saga in another post. It's a great story, full of adventure, faith, tears and victory!

But, now what I know you're all waiting for... pictures:

Promised pics from Jody & Phillip's visit:

Mieke just loves her uncle Jody!

She's a little more serious here with Phillip... she's still processing her survival training from this 15 year old Eagle Scout!

Where's Topher?!

Well... I've almost posted many times in the past 6 months, but every time I think about it, I just happen to be away from my computer... or in the middle of something. Then there's the dilemma of trying to catch up on what has happened since your last post...but then who's got time to read 6 months worth of buying a new house, renovating the old one to put on the market, anxiously awaiting news of the old one to sell, Anamieke's astounding progress (popping out her 3rd tooth as we speak... actually, she's sleeping alongside a very beautiful sleeping Marzooky at the moment), travelling with work, my parent's 50th wedding anniversary, yada, yada, yada!

For all of her adoring fans, I'll also be posting new pics of Anamieke soon. I just realized I don't have the right media port on my laptop, so I'll have to download them on my work desktop when I can.

So,  I thought I'd write about this weekend...

My brother, Jody & his son, Phillip, came all the way down here to go to the Astros/Braves game on Saturday night. It was the first time they've been to visit since Jeanna and I got married... almost 5 years ago now. It was a perfect boy weekend. They got in on Saturday, and we proceded to stuff ourselves with burritos from Chipotle and go to the "All American Classic Car" showroom in Conroe. I've often passed that place and wanted to go in, and could think of no better time to do so than this weekend. They had everything from a completely restored and cherry 68 Camaro RS to a Porsche Ruff (one of 2 made- yours for only $165K) to a SWEEET 72 El Camino SS. This made for great boy time to get us ready for the game Saturday evening.

Well, it was a great game and I'm glad to say the 'stros won, which was not the outcome that my brother and his son were hoping for. But, the awesome fireworks display following the game did away with any ill will and we all rode back to "the Woo" in my li'l red pickup truck (oh yeah, another event of the past 6 months - bought a truck )

Well, they flew back to Nashville today... and we went to church, then slept most of the afternoon.

Ok, that's it for my first post back. I'm sure I'll post on poliltical stuff as things stir me up, but mostly what is consuming me these days is the Holy Spirit. Another huge thing that has been happening over the past 6 months has been an re-awakening in my spirit to the things of God. It's really been quite refreshing, and what is on my mind most of the time (along with Marzooky & Mieke). So, for any of my post modern or non "churchy" folk drop by on one of those posts... please bare with me and join in the conversation... as always!

Thought to Ponder

Just browsing through Anciano's real blog this morning and he had this quote posted that was too good not to share...

There is a weakness among us in evangelical circles–we put a plus sign after Christ: Christ plus something else. It is always the pluses that ruin our spiritual lives personally, and it is always the additions that weaken the church. God has declared that Christ, His Son, is sufficient. He is the way, the truth and the life. He is wisdom and righteousness and sanctification and redemption. He is the wisdom of God and the power of God and He gathers up in Himself all things and in Him all things consist. So we do not want Jesus Christ plus something else. -A.W. Tozer
